Claudia and Eric - photo rightChef Eric Sarnow was born and raised in upstate New York. Upon completion of his culinary degree, Eric traveled to France to apprentice. After a year at a country inn in the Sarthe region, Eric worked in the Loire valley at the famed Chateau d'Artigny - a five star, luxury hotel built by Louis XVI and restored by the perfumer Francois Coty. Following his stint at Chateau d'Artigny, Eric apprenticed at Domaine de Beauvois in Luynes- another 5 star resort. Three years later, Eric returned to the U.S. Eric was hired upon his return to the States by world renowned chef Georges Perrier, owner of the legendary Le Bec Fin, Philadelphia . He worked as sous chef at Le Bec Fin from 1987 to 1993. Claudia Sarnow is an artist from Philadelphia . She was a Fine Arts major at Penn State and received a degree in design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. Claudia spent 2 years in France and many of her pastry ideas were inspired by her stay. Claudia's creative influence is seen in the furnishings & decor of the restaurant. Eric & Claudia left Philadelphia and moved to central Pa. after the birth of their son Evan. The Hummingbird Room opened its doors in October, 1993. Chef Sarnow oversees the kitchen & Claudia and manager Michelle Rifice attend to the front of the house. We are committed to offering an extraordinary dining experience in a relaxed and comfortable country setting.
